Open
Water Scuba is the entry level program and an essential training
program for anyone who wishes to go diving without being under
direct supervision from a diving professional. This is the
first step that every "certified" diver has taken
at some point.
The Program:
Training consists of 3 phases described below.
Phase One: Home Study and Review Sessions.
The home study portion of this course can be done at your
own convenience be it 7P.M. or 2A.M.
There
is a study kit (DVD and textbook) that you will need
for home study. There are 5 modules in the
home study kit that you will complete. Along the way, there
will
be
scheduled
review sessions with an instructor held in the classroom
at
Swim King Scuba. Once you have a complete understanding of
the material within the home study kit, you will take a final
exam. The final exam is to be completed before entering phase
three of the program.
Phase Two:
Pool Diving and Scuba Skills.
In the swimming pool, you will learn
and practice the different skills you need to become a
proficient diver. Pool diving is a very important phase of
training. Aside from skill mastery, it allows it allows you
to become comfortable in the water.
A big part of being comfortable is having the right equipment.
We require that every student has their own mask, scuba
fins,
and snorkel. This equipment has to fit properly, ill fitting
equipment has a negative impact on your pool
training. Most students require about 6 hours of pool time
before entering the final phase of training which takes
place
in the open water.
Phase Three: Open
Water Diving:
This is the final phase of your training. During this part
of the class you will be using all of the skills and applying
all of the theories you learned in Phase One and Two. This
will all be done under the direct supervision of a diving
instructor. You
will
demonstrate
that you
have mastered all the skills you learned previously in
the swimming pool. You must complete 4 dives and
perform the skills
your instructor asks you to in order to complete the training
and get your certification card.
