Kids!
Join our P.A.D.I. Seal Team!
Do you love swimming in the pool and ocean? Would you like to participate in
a noncompetitive sport? Would you like to scuba dive? Then join our P.A.D.I.
(Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Seal Team for some amazing
underwater AquaMissions. Designed for kids 8 - 12 years old, this exciting
program teaches you how to snorkel and dive in a pool and even in the Long
Island Sound.
What's an AquaMission?
Our PADI Seal Team program has three integral phases. In Phase 1, you enroll
in the 15 hour Skill Development Program which is conducted in a swimming pool
with a 1: 4 instructor to student ratio. The Development Program encompasses
AquaMissions 1 - 5 and teaches the basics of snorkeling and scuba diving. AquaMission
5 includes a demonstration for family and friends as well as a graduation celebration.
Then you’re ready for Phase 2 - joining the PADI Seal Team Club. Club meetings
are held once a month in the swimming pool. We conduct 10 specialty AquaMissions
from September – June. Some of these are: Night Diving Specialist, Navigation
Specialist, Underwater Creature Identification Specialist, and Snapshot Specialist.
Each club meeting is an underwater pool adventure! Additionally, there are occasional
field trips to places of interest like the beach and a recompression chamber.
Boat Diving
During July, August, and September, Seal Team members who have completed AquaMissions
1 - 5 and have mastered basic scuba skills are qualified to participate in Phase
3 of our program - diving in the Long Island Sound in 8 – 10 feet of water.
Dives are made from our boat – Sport Diver – which is docked in Ralph’s
Fishing Station in Mt. Sinai’s Cedar Beach complex. These dives are instructor
led at a ratio of 1:1 – one instructor with one Seal Team member. Dives
last from 30 to 40 minutes. Young divers have the exciting opportunity to learn
about our marine environment and even feed the fish during the warmer weeks.
Parents who are scuba certified can join their child for a dive with the instructor
from the boat.
And we’ll keep you diving! Kids have the opportunity to become fully certified
divers as they age and mature.
